The timeline for Amarnath Yatra 2017 has arrived with its sacred opportunity to go closer to Lord Shiva. Every year thousands of devotees perform this Yatra in the sacred remembrance of Shiva. For Hindus, one sight of Amarnath ice shivlinga is equal to many pilgrimages. This Yatra is about strong religious sentiment and the way through is equally tough. While many devotees perform this trip every year, there are many devotees who perform this for the first time. However, whether you are a regular visitor or the first-timer, you have to comply with various aspects. There are certain compliances and rules associated with this Yatra to ensure your safety. Let’s take a look at the essential pre-boarding things you need to keep ready before starting the spiritual journey.
This year, the Yatra will start from 29th June and will end by 7th August. Amarnath Yatra is specific to the Hindu Shravan month.
The first and most essential document is the medical fitness certificate. To embark on this Yatra, you have to be physically fit. You need to get a medical fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner or authorized institutions. Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has a list of a medical practitioner or authorized institutions from where you can get this. The age limit for devotees is set for 13 to 75 years. Pregnant women above 6 weeks pregnancy is not allowed for this Yatra.
The other thing you will need to keep is a valid ID proof. IDs such as voter ID card or Adhaar card or driving license or passport will do.
Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has issued a list of authorized banks to register Yatra. These banks issue the Yatra Permit (YP) on first come first serve basis. The YPs are valid for individuals only. To obtain this permit, you will have to submit an application form and medical fitness certificate. The application forms are available from these banks and also available online.

The Yatra starts from either Pahalgam or Baltal base camps. From Srinagar, you will have to first reach the base camps.
To reach Baltal base camp, you will have to take the Sonamarg route. From Sonamarg to Baltal, it’s a spectacular drive experience through amazing landscapes. From Baltal base camps, you can start your pedal journey or take a helicopter from the nearest Neelgrath point.
To reach Pahalgam base camp, you will have to start the journey from Jammu. From Jammu, it is 315km to Pahalgam base camp. This is the traditional base camp from where most of the devotees start the Yatra.
J&K TDC provides tents for the devotees with necessary facilities. However, you can also stay at your price by choosing a comfortable hotel. You can find a range of cheap hotels & luxury hotels in the Sonamarg area. However, if you are planning to stay in tents then do carry your necessary stuff.
