The base camps:

The Yatra starts from either Pahalgam or Baltal base camps. From Srinagar, you will have to first reach the base camps.
To reach Baltal base camp, you will have to take the Sonamarg route. From Sonamarg to Baltal, it’s a spectacular drive experience through amazing landscapes. From Baltal base camps, you can start your pedal journey or take a helicopter from the nearest Neelgrath point.
To reach Pahalgam base camp, you will have to start the journey from Jammu. From Jammu, it is 315km to Pahalgam base camp. This is the traditional base camp from where most of the devotees start the Yatra.

Various Yatra routes:

  • You can reach Amarnath by Helicopter from Neelgrath and Pahalgam. From both the points, it takes only 10 minutes to reach Panjtarni. Panjtarni is only 5 km away from Amarnath cave. You will have to cover this distance by walk or you can take pony/pitthu. To take this helicopter ride, you will have to produce compulsory health certificate (CHC).
  • You can also take the shorter walk route via Baltal. From Baltal it is 14 km in length and it starts from Srinagar. This route is generally avoided by the older devotees due to its rough ascent.
  • The traditional route via Pahalgam is the most preferred route. Maximum devotees choose this path despite the fact that it is longer. The total length of this route is 36-48km depending on your wish.
